Assyrian Flag
The meaning behind the Assyrian flag is very significant in that the golden circle represents the sun. The blue star represents the four corners of the world and the blue color means tranquility. The stripes extending from the center represent the three rivers of our homeland, namely Tigris, Euphrates and Zawa. The dark blue stripes represents the Euphrates, which stands for the Assyrian word Prat, meaning per-u-ta (abundance). The red stripes represent the Tigris, its blood-red hue stands for courage, pride and glory. The white stripes in the middle represent Zawa, its white color meaning peace. The emblem above the blue star is Assur; who is guarding the country, the flag and the nation it represents. On top of the flagstaff is the standard of King Sargon I, who established the first Assyrian empire. During the ancient times this insignia stood by the King's side to let everyone know his whereabouts.
