BP has failed yet again at capping the gushing oil well. While the latest attempt at stopping the oil flow using a saw failed miserably today BP has continued to push forward. With many Gulf States facing clean ups in the hundreds of thousands of dollars BP has announced that they will, in a feeble attempt, support the U.S. government's decision to proceed with the construction of six sections of the Louisiana barrier islands proposal. The company has stated that it will fund the estimated $360 million project. With the problem only getting worse this seems to be BP's version of a band aid.

I am not sure how many of our readers followed the ABC drama FlashForward but when it became clear that the network decided to cancel the show and its second season it sent my friends and I into some deep discussions. I am one of those who does not mind a little bad acting as long as the show (the premise, the plot, etc.) gets it done. My friends on the other hand, and they're in the majority, think that the acting is what drives a show. I understand, from reading various articles that the show was hurting; it fell short of its projected ratings and therefore deserved to be axed. I am not completely convinced that it was all just "bad acting". Having said that I am not entirely sure that what is replacing the show today makes that much more sense. I was also a huge fan of Jericho before CBS decided to axe it after its first season and then, only after having given in to some pressure, bring it back for seven more episodes to close out the series.

Unfortunately, aside from being able to tune in every night for one's favourite show the viewer really has no say in what stays and what goes. That, in itself, can be the downfall of network television. There will come a time when the networks will lose their hold over their viewers; and even then the mindless drivel which they feed them every night, in the form of carbon-copied trash, will be ineffective.

In the end it is the viewer who gets the proverbial shaft when a show, which could have showed promise over the course of another season, is axed due to poor ratings. Shows such as FlashForward and Jericho could have been more than they promised to be if given the chance. Networks are corporations however and they need to make money too. Therefore, in the spirit of good business, they decide to do away with the bad. How long will it be until the networks lose their hold over you?

If it smokes report it! According to an article on CBC News online New York City police disarmed a potentially powerful bomb in a sport utility vehicle parked in Times Square. It would seem that an observant T-shirt vendor reported smoke coming from a Nissan Pathfinder on 45th Street around 6:30 p.m. ET. The vehicle had its engine running and hazard lights flashing.
